Photolucida Critical Mass Top 50 and Solo Exhibition Award
The award is given annually to one of the Critical Mass Top 50 photographers and is chosen by Blue Sky’s Exhibition Committee. Previous winners have been Mitch Dowbrowner (2010) and Nigel Dickinson (2011). Tamas Deszo’s exhibition at Blue Sky coincides with the third annual Portland Photo Month.

Night Watchman from the series Here, Anywhere has been published in the Prix Pictet book Power.
The book showcases the 12 shortlisted artists alongside outstanding photographs by nominees which best respond to the theme. It includes a foreword by Kofi Annan, Honorary President of the Prix Pictet, together with essays by two leading commentators, Harry Eyres and Phil Thornton. The book is published by teNeues. Founded by the leading Swiss private bank Pictet & Cie in 2008, the Prix Pictet has rapidly established itself as the world’s leading prize in photography and sustainability. The award has a global audience of over 400 million. It aims to uncover outstanding photography applied to confront the most pressing social and environmental challenges of today.

Reconsidering the Photographic Masterpiece

"The sweeping exhibition, Reconsidering the Photographic Masterpiece, curated by Michele Penhall, will present approximately 100 works chosen from the museum’s permanent collection that encompasses the history of photography from 1843 to 2011. The exhibition centers upon the idea of an artist's signature or iconic image from an evolving and changed, historical perspective. Works from the 19th century to the present day by William Henry Fox Talbot, Julia Margaret Cameron, Edward Weston, August Sander, Diane Arbus, Garry Winnogrand, Hilla and Bernd Becher, and Flor Garduño with recent gifts and acquisitions of works by Alfred Stieglitz, Henri Cartier-Bresson, Jayne Hinds Bidaut, John Coplans, Tamas Dezso, Danny Lyon, Alec Soth, and Martin Parr will be included in this important exhibition."
